Golden Mirrors Awards

With the style of Hollywood, the ceremony, full of glamor and meticulously prepared by students and teachers of the School l'Anunciata - Dominiques of Lleida, began with the disclosure of the nominations for the categories of Best Daily and Best Scale model (for each country that is part of the project), Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Film.

Present in the list of nominations in almost every category, Portugal was awarded five awards "THE GOLDEN MIRROR": Daily Best of Turkey Best of Germany Daily, Daily Best of Finland, Daily best of the best Model of Poland and Poland.

Well done, portuguese team!

Discussion - construction of a hotel in the local area*

The Municipality of Esposende licensed the construction of a luxury hotel in a known hotel chain very near the mouth of the river Cávado, built on the beach dunes Ofir, the most important in the county. Having taken acknowlegement of this fact, students of the School António Correia de Oliveira wrote a letter to the local and national authorities, in order to express their rejection of the decision.

Mr Mayor of Esposende

As attentive and concerned young citizens of the world around us and, in particular, environmental issues, a group of students of the School António Correia de Oliveira wishes by this means exercise their civic right to express their opinion regarding the construction project of a hotel at the estuary of the river Cávado, in Esposende, approved by Your Excellency.

We are confident that this project, because of its originality and innovation, will the city and county of Esposende a tourist center of high quality and can capture the interest of large investors and make other new projects arise. These, in turn, will surely generate the creation of new jobs, direct and indirectly, which would be reflected in the local economy and finances of the municipality.

However, the realization of this project will result in a huge and irreversible damage in environmental terms: the impact on fauna and flora is so serious that will culminate in the destruction of the same, causing the extinction of certain species of plants and animals.

It should be noted that the dunes, protected by law since 1987, will be irreparably damaged, which is a real environmental attack. On the other hand, we found that the licensing of the work, although approved by the authority and direction of the North Coast Natural Park, violates the rules defined in the Plan of the Coastal Zone. As for us, it is unacceptable this kind of project, with more than 4000 square meters of deployment, 65 meters high, a basement with five floors, a few meters from the sea.

Given the implications that the project carries environmentally, calling into question the existence of the natural park of the north coast, to preserve a legacy for future generations, students of the School António Correia de Oliveira vehemently repudiate the approval and licensing of the project and appeal for its annulations.

Aware that the point of view of this group of citizens will be taken into consideration and sincerely we hope that the decision can be reconsidered and amended,
